The worst being the teleporting wildlife and the risk of loosing ALL your progress. Other than that, there are a few bugs that totally destroy the gameplay. It was a long wait, but finally COTW came along and it looked like this was my dream comming true a modern "realistic" hunting game.Īt first glance the game delivers the same realistic feel of Deer Hunter 2005, but as much as I like COTW I need to be honest: COTW is fun, but extremely buggy and lacking in basic features that were present in DH2005.
All other hunting games are arcade style, but I was looking for realism. The whole reason why I bought COTW was based on those memories. It has been years since I played Deer Hunter 2005, but I have very fond memories of it. Very beautiful, especially if you like snow landscapes. There is also a new big hunting map set in the Siberian Taiga which came out recently. There is also some paid DLC you can buy, one tent DLC that lets you place tents anywhere on the map that act as mini outposts and have the same functionality, a DLC that gives you a ATV to drive around on, useful to exploring the map but too loud and scares of animals. I played for around 85 by now and barely finished exploring the maps andīasically just used one weapon category so far. Game has a dynamic day/night cycle and a weather system. You also earn money from harvesting animals or doing missions which is used to buy more equipment, different weapons, callers, binoculars and so on. There are outposts you can unlock by discovering them which are used as bases where you buy equipment, can sleep and act as fast travel station to get around the map.įor harvested animals you earn two kind of exp, one for your hunter to raise levels over time which unlocks skill and perk points you can invest into different skill and weapon trees.Īlso weapon points that unlock more weapons of the same category and gadgets like scopes.Ĭurrently there are 4 categories of weapons in the game, rifles, handguns, bows and shotguns. At the beginning you can create a hunter, male or female and then choose one of 2 big reservations that are in the game, Layton Lake which is in the USA and Hirschfelden a German hunting reserve.īoth are MASSIVE in scale and it takes around 30 hours or so to completely explore one region. Never played Deer Hunter 2005 so i cant compare them.īut this is a pretty realistic hunting simulation, meaning its not unusual to walk around or track a animal for 25-30 minutes before you get to shoot.
